If you have a more complicated order or wish to speak to someone, you can fill out the cake order request form or email us (click 'contact' in the menu bar). We can arrange an appointment to order in person or process your order via email. Please be aware we are unable to take orders over the phone.
  • Can I order a custom-designed cake?
Yes! However please be aware that we do not create novelty cakes, sculpted designs or use fondant in any way. If needed, we may require an in-person meeting to further plan your cake.
  • What is your availability?
You can view our current availability on our dedicated page: https://www.cakesbydrew.com/availability Our interactive calendar lists all dates and is a quick reference to see if your date is available for an order. We try to keep this calendar as accurate as possible but dates may book out before we get a chance to update it. For online sales, our ordering platform will not let you select a date we are unavailable. You can cross-reference this with the availability calendar linked above for more specific information. All online orders require a minimum 7 days notice. We do offer a limited range of last-minute cakes that may be ordered if time and availability permit. Please contact us for more information.
  • How much notice do you require?
We ask that you give us as much notice as possible! Generally, we require a minimum of 7 days notice. Popular times like weekends book out quickly and we recommend ordering at least 2 weeks ahead to avoid missing out. During our wedding season (Late Spring - Summer - Early Autumn) it is common to be booked out months in advance. If you're unable to select a fulfilment date while shopping online, it means orders have closed or we are unavailable. You cannot place an order for a future date and then request an earlier fulfilment without prior & explicit written approval from Cakes by Drew. Occasionally, we may be able to facilitate a last minute order. These are limited in size, flavour and designs are based on our No Frills range. To order, head to www.cakesbydrew.com/lastminute.
  • Do you have anything I can pickup today?
The short answer is No. We make all our products exclusively to order only so you will need to preorder if you would like anything from us. (See availability and order lead times) We may on very rare occasions have excess stock from overbaking or last-minute cancellations. If this happens they will be advertised on Instagram and Facebook so check our recent posts for something there. Past posts have sold within an hour of posting so don't rely on anything being available for long. We hope to be able to have a simple range of products available for walk-in customers in the future but unfortunately, it is logistically prohibitive at this time.

  • I need to change my order!
Unfortunately any order placed online cannot be modified after purchase. Cakes ordered online cannot be modified after purchase. Cakes by Drew has created a wide selection of customisable cakes available to purchase online with simple and structured pricing offered at a reduced rate. For this reason, is it not possible to further customise or modify cakes after you have placed an order online. Please carefully consider your order before completing payment. You can still change the fulfilment date or cancel the order as per our other policies. • What are your cake sizes?
All our celebration cakes listed online are round and are about 8-9" (20-23cm) tall. This is our standard height and consists of 6 layers of cake + fillings. Serving numbers quoted refer to our dessert size serves and consist of 3 layers of cake + 2 layers of buttercream and filling. The size you select when ordering refers to the diameter of the cake and determines the overall serving numbers available. These sizes range from 5" (~10cm) through to 9" (~23cm). We also offer some two-tiered cake sizes for our designs. For example, 8/6" refers to an 8" (diameter) tier and 6" (diameter) tier stacked to create a tall two tier cake. No Frills cakes come in different sizes to our standard celebration cakes. These cakes are always 3 layers of cake filled and topped with buttercream, approximately 6" tall. The sizes are mini (6" diameter), small (8" diameter), medium (10" diameter) and large (12" diameter). For custom shapes, sizes or other multitiered cakes, please contact us to order. We do not offer cake sizes smaller than those listed online.
  • What are your serving sizes?
We use two standards in cake serving sizes as follows: Coffee serve - 2.5cm x 2.5cm x 3 cake layers Dessert serve - 2.5cm x 5cm x 3 cake layers All cake serving quantities quoted throughout this website are based on the standard dessert serving size of 2.5cm x 5cm x 3 cake layers. In most cases you can estimate the number of coffee serves you can get from a cake size by roughly doubling the number of dessert serves quoted. (For example, our 6" cake offers 25 dessert serves, and up to 48 coffee serves)
  • What cake size do I need?
The simplest answer is to decide how many slices of cake you will require. All our cake sizes listed online include an approximate serving number based on a standard dessert size (see cakes serving size info above). You can then pick a cake size that will most appropriately serve everyone with minimal wastage. Of course you can choose to order a smaller or larger cake based on the overall appearance or your budget rather than serving numbers. There is no 'correct' answer, but rather whatever is best suited to your individual needs. For a personalised cake size recommendation please contact us.
  • How do I cut the cake?
Modern tall cakes need a different approach to cutting, especially if you want to maximise the number of serves! While slicing your cake into wedges works for smaller cakes, larger and in particular taller cakes are best cut into (industry standard) portions. We provide a hard copy of our cake care and cutting guides with your cake. To view these instructions, along with a handy video click below. www.cakesbydrew.com/faqs/howtocut
  • Why do I need to bring the cake to room temperature?
We recommend brining our cakes to room temperature because the flavours and textures of our cakes are at their best when served at room temperature instead of straight out of the fridge. In its most simplest explanation, our cakes have a high butterfat content and this means the texture is affected by temperature. If you think of a block of butter, when it is in the fridge, it is firm, dry and unpleasant to eat, but leave it out to warm up and it becomes soft, moist and much more pleasant to eat. The same applies to cakes. The texture of the cake and buttercream becomes softer, moister and overall much more pleasant and enjoyable to eat when allowed to come to room temperate. Additionally, we are better able to taste flavours when what we are eating is not cold, meaning you will get tastier and more nuanced flavours! A good indication of this is the consistency of the buttercream. It should be smooth (not runny) and creamy, not hard and crumbly. Of course, there is nothing wrong with eating the cake straight out of the fridge and some people prefer this. Just be aware that is may not be as good as it could be! Room temperature is considered around 20ËšC. Depending on the air temperature it may take 30 min - 2 hours to come to temperature. Avoid placing the cake near heat sources. HOT TIP! We find cutting the cake to be much easier when it is still cold, so if you can time it, slice the cake up 10-15 minutes earlier, let the slices come to room temp and then serve.
  • How long do your cakes last?
For the best experience we recommend consuming our cakes within 48 hours of collection, however when stored correctly, our cakes can last up to a week. For uncut/whole cakes: To ensure a safe and high quality product when storing your whole cake, it is important to keep it in the original box, as airtight as possible and in a cold fridge. Avoid fluctuating temperatures and remember to bring to room temperature before serving. Some decorations are not suitable to long term storage, particularly fresh cut flowers. If you need to store your cake for longer than 48 hours before serving we recommend not ordering a design that uses fresh flowers as these will wilt and not look their best. If you need to store your cake for longer than 48 hours before serving, let us know when collecting your cake and we can appropriately prepare it for storage. For cut cakes: Wrap left over slices or slabs in glad wrap or similar product and store in an airtight container for up to a week (from date of collection) in the fridge or 3 months frozen. Please note that some fillings are not suitable for freezing and may separate when defrosted. While this won't affect the safety of the product, it may be an undesirable texture. Cupcakes are best consumed the same day as pickup but can be safely stored refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 5 days. please be aware that Cupcakes are prone to becoming stale quickly and Cakes by Drew does not recommend storing cupcakes beyond 24 hours.

We have a limited selection of VEGAN cupcakes and no frills cakes available to purchase directly online. For more customised egg and/or dairy-free celebration cakes, please contact us to order.
